Posted January 25th, 2009 by CityBoy

Computers and technology are a fundamental part of our life. All together, society relies on computers and modern-day-technology to fuel our world and way of life. Keeping that in mind, it is imperative that job seekers have the basic computer skills for a successful job search . Job seekers that lack basic computer skills should make arrangements to learn basic computer programs.  It is more important that job seekers gain the knowledge of commonly used computer programs for the workplace.

Companies are increasingly requiring employees to  have the basic computer skills prior to being employed or before consideration for a job interview. Expertise believe that computers will be a necessary tool that may eliminate job seekers with little or no computer knowledge.
Some of the basic computers skills needed in today’s job market include: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Access. Applicants that have these computer skills are normally considered before other job seekers.

Recommendations:

1. Spend some time at your local library researching a little about computer applications. Understanding basic computer programs may provide the extra credit needed for a job interview.

2. Research free self pace classes online to help you gather some basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and their uses in the work place. Taking the necessary time to learn these skills may help boost your confidence before an interview.
3. Ask family members and friends to coach or teach you the basics applications of Microsoft Office Suite. The more help you can receive, the better the possibilities of success.
4. Another option is to take formal classes online or at your local colleges and universities. Formal classes are designed to give you hands on training needed with these programs and add more credentials on your resume.
Remember, learning a new skill should be fun. Consider these actions as a necessary step and another investment into your future.
