Ok, let’s talk about Headhunters. Can a headhunter really help you find a new job or career, in this job market?
The answer is yes. A headhunter is another great tool to add to your job search strategy. A headhunter is basically an individual that is hired to help you find jobs or help employers find the right candidate for their organization. Some headhunters may ask for a retainer while others prefer being paid after successfully finding their client a job.
A good headhunters will understand their market and knows what companies are hiring. They should also have a good understanding of the type of salary offered by each company. This may prove beneficial for job seekers that are looking for specialty jobs in their locale.
Although headhunters are available to most job seekers, many headhunters focus solely on upper level positions such as management and other senior level staff positions. Common jobs such as cashiers, sales clerk, and cleaning services may not require or qualify for a headhunter service. Job seekers that are looking for part time employment can also benefit from the services of a headhunter. Do keep in mind that headhunters are more geared towards upper level jobs with a higher paying salary.
Things to consider before choosing a headhunter:
a) Research the reputation of the headhunter and their agencies. The more information you can gather about a headhunter, the better. This will allow you an opportunity to make an informed decision on what experiences or qualifications they have that is beneficial to you.
b) Compile your personal information for a better chance of success. Have a resume, cover letter, and letters of recommendation at your disposal. These items will help speed up the process and will strengthen the headhunter’s chances of success.
c) Be cautious of scams. Job seekers should always be mindful of who they give their personal information to. By providing information such as driver’s license number, addresses, email accounts, and social security number, you are putting yourself at risk. Avoid giving too much information to someone that you are uncomfortable with. Step back at the first sign of disbelief and reevaluate what is happening. Your best defense to preventing a scam is awareness. Be careful for individuals that may ask for cash up front.
d) Continue searching for
jobs online. Although headhunters may be an option, I strongly recommend that you continue your online job search. By submitting your resume online and applying for jobs, you will increase your chances in finding a new career opportunities.
The bottom line: Headhunters are a great tool for job seekers and must be considered an option especially for higher level positions.
