Making Career Changes

Every day millions of workers make changes in their career with the expectation of a better standard of living, finances, benefit package, family or even to accommodaterelocation efforts.

 
There are several factors that must be taken into consideration such as:
a) Pay cut: For many, career changes mean a better paying job or position.  These career changes are geared toward helping their financial situation. The other side of that coin includes a career path that requires a cut in pay and a reduction in many financial security they come to enjoy. Plan your career change by investigating the pros and con of the financial implications associated with your career move.
b) Relocation: Some career changes stem from the motivation of starting over. Many of these individuals often plan to relocate. Other individuals may have overlooked a mandatory relocation connected with their new career path. Once again, do your homework to get a clear understanding of what travel and relocation obligation is associated with the career change.
c) Retirement: There are jobs that are more lucrative base on the retirement package while others are  remain more appealing for their salary.  A solid retirement package may be something to consider when considering a new career path. Employers should also research similar career opportunities that offers a good retirement benefits.
d) Health Care: Health care and insurance benefits are often a huge part of the employee’s benefit package. All individuals that are considering a career change should also look into the type of health care and insurance benefits offered by the employer. A change in career may alter the benefit package for the employee and their family. Educated yourself on career opportunities that may put you and your family at a lower health and insurance bracket.
e) Progression: The need to excel or ability to advance is an important aspect to making a career change. Individuals migrating from one career path to another often consider the prospect for advancement. Career changes that offer little or no room for promotion may prove to be a negative career move.  If promotion is a factor, ensure that your career path offers a pathway to advancing within the company.
No matter the reason, be mindful of the factors that drive your career decisions.
