There are some key elements that cannot be ignored when it is time to fill out your job application.
1) Start with and finish with the same language as your resume. Your resume should be a guide to filling out the job application from the employer. Information such as telephone numbers, email address, education level, and the personal information provided, should mirror your resume. A resume is normally the first impression on a potential employer. This imprint of you will remain a major part of their decision to hire you. Any conflicting information provided on the job application may prove to be harmful. Be careful to review your resume and transfer the information onto the job application forms.
2) Be honest with your financial history and past salary information. The employer may already have the ability to obtain this information. Lying about your pass salary to gain a higher paying opportunity, may also prove to be costly.
3) Write clearly: Choose a good pen and find quality time to concentrate on filling out the job application forms. Distractions such as children, television, or even talking on the phone may increase the chances of mistakes. Take some time alone to work on your job application and treat it as another vital step to landing a new
job.
4) Gather relevant information before beginning your filling out your
job application forms: Many jobs applications will require personal information such as your driver’s license number, graduation dates, references, and more. Some of this information may require research before starting the job application. Visually scan the job application in order to find out what information is needed. This will allow you the opportunity to work on the application with limited interruption.
5) Finally, make a blank copy of the job application and start working on a rough draft. It is common to make mistakes on the first attempt to filling out the application forms. Use this copy as a guide and make any correction as needed before working on the final copy.
It is also common to start filling out job application forms and finishing at a later time. Be mindful of what you have done and secure the documents until you are able to complete them. Take some quality time on your job application and treat it as a vital part of the
job search process.
